Hove Festival 2007: the DiS review
The event wasn't just about music, though: Hove is one of a new breed of festivals doing its bit for the environment by aiming to be as carbon-neutral as possible. The festival's intention is to be the world's leading festival in terms of protecting the environment it's set within. You can read more here. --- --- DAY ONE After a flight to Oslo a day earlier with none other than chirpy Yorkshire group Kaiser Chiefs, DiS is obviously as keen as mustard to check the pop-rocking five-piece out as they headline the ‘second stage' Amfi, an amphitheatre-styled area, at 1am. But, it's absolutely tipping down outside – indeed, DiS's first full day in Norway coincides with the highest amount of rainfall the island Hove is set on has ‘enjoyed' since records began.
Miss Massachusetts prepares for shot at national title
Amaral said she is keeping her cool as showtime edges closer. "It takes a lot of work and not everyone understands that, but it's a lot of fun," she said shortly after settling into her Las Vegas hotel. Ms. Amaral, crowned Miss Massachusetts last June, is in the midst of a busy week of rehearsals, preliminary rounds and public appearances. It all leads up to Saturday's pageant, which will air live at 8 p.m. on TLC from the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. "Right before I left, I said to my mom, 'I should be nervous, right?' And she said, 'If you're not nervous, then that's fine.' When you've done so much preparation, there's not much else to do." Ms. Amaral, a 2004 New Bedford High School graduate, has plenty of pageant preparation under her belt. She was crowned Miss New Bedford in 2005, Miss Cambridge in 2006 and Miss North Shore in early 2007, just months before her Miss Massachusetts win.
Duke looking forward, not back
But the left-handed starter probably wouldn't mind reliving a few moments like those he enjoyed during his major league debut season in 2005, when Duke stormed onto the scene after a July call-up to finish 8-2 with a 1.58 ERA.In 2006, Duke made some mechanical adjustments under the watch of then-Pirates manager Jim Tracy and pitching coach Jim Colborn. Whether coincidental or not, the lefty struggled to a 10-15 record and 4.47 ERA in 2006 and a 3-8 mark with a 5.53 ERA last year in only 1071/3 innings."There were some changes (in mechanics) made but that's all in the past," Duke said during a Thursday stop at Greater Johnstown Middle School with the Pirates Winter Caravan. "I'm only looking to the future and really to the present. I'm just trying to control what I can control right now and improve where I need to improve and just get healthy and try to stay healthy all year this year."Duke was Pittsburgh's opening-day starter last season.
The President's Nunu Republic
The clerk in the President's office cautioned. " Yaro, I beg make you shut up o. Look at you. No be you I dey dash doya before and you dey do me rankadede? Now you too done join my enemies wey no want me to chop." Megida's anger threatened to return. "Hmm, Megida, you no they gree at all." The gruffy man joked. "Na true now. The regime of rigimo brings rigging for government" Megida enthused. "If not because of our respect for the rule of Law we would have ordered you out of this office sir." The Secretary intoned as she picked up some printed documents and entered the inner chamber of the president. "This is the problem." I became exasperated. "You people ape the government at the top and behave badly too. What is all this rubbish about rule of law when you kept me here for more than six hours and allow people who greased your palms to see the President.
Father shocked to hear dipset music on disney CD
A father in the Roseville section of Sacramento, Ca. was shocked to discover explicit music from the Diplomats on a Disney Channel Hits CD that was supposed to contain music from Hannah Montana and High School Musical. According to CBS 13, Jeremy Danielson purchased the CD for his daughter at a local Toys R Us store, but received quite a surprise when his family opened it up on Christmas morning. “It was definitely not Hannah Montana, it was like graphic lyrics, like gangsta rap," Danielson told a reporter. “Real explicit lyrics, sexual content, just stuff you don't want your little kids to hear." In a video report posted on the CBS website, the song “I Love You" from the first Diplomats group album, Diplomatic Immunity, can clearly be heard playing in the background. “We are a Christian family and we don't bring media like that into our house," Danielson said.
A Touch of Luxury
Fashion and lifestyle trends permeate the fine fragrance realm. Melissa Meisel Associate Editor It’s a sparkling floral that opens with orange bigarade, crisp Italian basil and bergamot. The Mediterranean notes fuse with a breezy and natural island cypress. A floral heart unfolds with rose petals, velvety violet de Parma and rich dark fig. A feathery accord recalls the aura of crashing waves with a textural Italian jasmine blossom. This is fashion designer Michael Kors’ latest perfume, Island Capri, and just one of many new scent experiences available in today’s fine fragrance market. According to Chicago-based market research firm Mintel, the women's fragrances market remains dominated by premium, often designer brands, aimed at women looking for a luxury scent.
Jessica Sierra Heading To Rehab; Plus Alli Sims, Mischa Barton, Avril ...
After a legal snafu that almost landed her back behind bars, former "American Idol" finalist Jessica Sierra is on her way to a rehab facility in California again. According to Florida Assistant State Attorney Pam Bondi, the troubled singer — who was ordered to spend a year in the Pasadena Recovery Center as a result of her recent arrest on disorderly intoxication charges — had her emergency probation transfer order rejected by the California Department of Probation. That resulted in the awkward situation of Sierra, 22, being out of jail but unable to begin rehab. "She was supposed to get on a plane yesterday, but the probation department in California wouldn't accept her transfer on an expedited basis because they take up to 45 days to review requests, so we had the unfortunate situation of a pregnant addict on the streets," Bondi said.
